Founded in 1914, the Atlanta Writers Club (AWC)…
…teaches the craft and business of writing, supports the local literary community, and encourages more reading by the public.
Our Membership: with 1,600 members across the US, the AWC serves all who are interested in writing, from well-published authors to those aspiring to write for the first time. Our members include writers of fiction, non-fiction, memoir, essays, blogs, graphic novels, poetry, screenplays, teleplays, stage plays, journalism, and freelance work. Upcoming Events: AWC hosts monthly educational meetings and periodic workshops, all of which are free to our members. If you are a first-time visitor, we invite you to come to a meeting for free to decide if we’ll be a good fit for you. READ MORE>>
We also host the Atlanta Writers Conference twice each year, where our members can receive literary agent and publisher feedback about their work, take the next big step toward achieving agent representation and book deals, and learn even more about the writing craft and the publishing industry. In addition, we offer the Atlanta Self-Publishing Conference annually for authors who are interested in self-publishing or who have self-published and want to get the most out of their publishing business. Annual Writing Contest: AWC hosts a no-fee contest each winter/spring for our members with prize money for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. The contest launches in December of each year, with winners announced at our May meeting. READ MORE>>
The AWC proudly hosts the Townsend Prize for Fiction and its award ceremony every two years to celebrate literary fiction produced by Georgia’s most talented authors. READ MORE>>
Critique Groups: AWC sponsors critique groups online and in-person throughout the metro Atlanta area, and we encourage our members to start new ones. We will advertise your group on our website and in our newsletter to help you recruit participants. READ MORE>>

Our Debut & Emerging Authors Marketing Program provides a dedicated space for fledgling authors to connect and collaborate with each other and learn from successful, experienced author-mentors about how to build buzz for their upcoming book launch or their existing book(s). READ MORE>>
If you’re seeking a writing program with a structured and focused approach to enhance your writing skills and help you achieve your personal and professional goals, we also offer the Craft of Writing Certificate Program. Taught by editor and author extraordinaire, Lorin Oberweger, this exclusive program includes eight monthly webinars by Lorin, homework for which she provides individual feedback, a Discord channel for peer critiques of homework, and, as a “graduation bonus,” a meeting with a literary agent seeking your genre (if you’re interested in traditional publishing) or a successful self-published author (if you’re interested in indie publishing).
